Understanding Somatic Inquiry

What Is Somatic Inquiry?

  • Feeling into the body’s sensations to discern emotions.
  • Quieting the mind in order to focus attention on the body.
  • A safe space where everything is welcome, and no judgements will be held.
  • Using breathing techniques and/or visualizations to help calm or activate the nervous system depending on what is needed at that time for the individual.
  • Increasing your capacity to sit with difficult sensations or emotions.
  • Gentle pendulation between pleasant feelings and uncomfortable ones.
  • Building islands of safety within the body using pleasant sensations.
  • Asking questions to body sensations to discover core beliefs.
  • Finding origins of nervous system dysfunction.
  • Becoming more aware of negative loops in your life.
  • Giving gratitude to your body’s protective mechanisms.
  • Investigation of your direct experience.
